On Friday, September 21st, the St. Mary K-3 students gathered outside the elementary building to watch Fr. Tschakert bless the new linden tree that was planted in memory of Nick Salviola.  Mrs. Merkwan also read a poem entitled Trees by Joyce Kilmer.  

What a beautiful addition to our school campus!

On Thursday afternoon, September 27th, Clifford the Big Red Dog paid a surprise visit to first grade.  The kids were so excited to meet him!!  We learned that Clifford turned 50 years old this year so we just had to sing him "Happy Birthday."  I think the first graders made Clifford's day!  

As part of this year's Scholastic  Book Fair on Friday, October 5th,  friends and family were invited to come to the lunchroom in the afternoon to read with the kids.  Afterward everyone enjoyed a snack and then were able to peruse the book fair and look at all of the books that were for sale.

It was a wonderful afternoon and it was so much fun to share the love of reading with all of our family and friends!  I think a good time was had by all!
